MEET OUR FACILITATOR
Rev. Kathy Gorman-Coombs considers Holmes Camp to be her spiritual home. Her call to ministry developed during the 9 summers she spent working here, as did her approach to community building, ministry, and pastoral care. She’s been blessed with a lifelong community of friends who all met in this place.
Since 1989, Kathy has served as Co-Pastor with her spouse, the Rev. Dr. Tim Coombs (whom she met at camp), at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Scotia, NY. Over the years, she has led Trinity’s Women’s Spirituality Group in exploring many stories of Biblical women, feminine imagery for God, other strong women of faith, and how our own faith is impacted and formed in relation to our womanliness. Under her and Tim’s leadership, Trinity became a More Light church.
In addition to her work at Trinity, Kathy worked for more than 20 years as a Domestic Violence counselor at the YWCA Northeastern NY, leading support groups for women in the community, including several at the County jail, running a drop in center for sex workers in Schenectady called Patty’s Place, and engaging in individual counseling with hundreds of persons harmed by domestic abuse.
She is thrilled to have this opportunity, not only to be at camp for a weekend, but to gather with and lead women in exploration of our faith and how we find God active in our lives.
The Holmes Women’s Retreat is a faith-focused Christian education program. While all Holmes programs are open to adherents of any faith, this retreat is designed with Presbyterians and members of other Mainline Protestant denominations in mind.
